Foundation of Real Estate Appraisers (FREA)

FREA was founded in 1992 in response to changes in the appraisal industry resulting from Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA). The Directors of FREA, appraisers themselves, believed the time was right for a professional organization which offered appraisers a package of benefits and education as its primary goal. Office of Real Estate Appraisers (OREA)

OREA is responsible for the accreditation of educational courses and providers for real estate appraisers. OREA, which is entirely funded by licensing fees, is a single program comprised of two core components, licensing and enforcement. The Licensing Division sets the minimum requirements for education and experience, according to criteria set by the federal government and California law, to ensure that only qualified persons are licensed to conduct appraisals in federally related real estate transactions.
